Borax (Sodium Borate) questions

What is the difference between borax decahydrate and pentahydrate?
Both are sodium tetraborate (Na2B4O7) differing only in water of crystallisation. Decahydrate (·10H2O, CAS 1303-96-4, MW ~381) carries more bound water, so by formula its boron content is lower (~11.3% B) than the pentahydrate (·5H2O, ~291 MW, ~14.9% B). RunziChem supplies both; choose by your blend and dissolution needs.
How is Borax different from the Boric Acid or disodium octaborate (DOT) boron grades?
Borax here is sodium tetraborate (Na2B4O7). Boric Acid is a separate product (H3BO3, CAS 10043-35-3, Boron 17%), and disodium octaborate (DOT) instant boron is a different chemical again. They are distinct molecules with different boron percentages, so confirm which boron source your formulation specifies before ordering.
Are the assay and purity values guaranteed?
No. Website values such as the stoichiometric boron content are typical or representative for buyer screening. The molecular weight and formula are standard chemistry facts, but final assay, purity, particle size, and appearance are confirmed on the current batch certificate of analysis.
